The Beer Trunk Line Why Does It Matter?

Have you ever been to a bar and wondered how they managed to get the beer from the cooler to the tap? Though you may not have seen it, it’s very likely that a beer trunk line was used. Beer trunk lines are an essential part of remote beer systems and can be used for beer runs hundreds of feet long. Read on to learn more about beer trunk lines and why they are so important in the world of beer dispensing.

What is a Beer Trunk Line?

A beer trunk line is a series of product lines wrapped together which carry beer from the walk-in cooler where kegs are stored to the draft towers where it is poured for customers. This type of beer system is also referred to as a long draw system.

Generally, a long draw system comes with a power pack or glycol chiller. Beer lines or glycol trunk lines.

Types of Beer Trunk Line

Glycol trunk lines come in various sizes, ranging from 1/4" I.D., which is suitable for runs less than 50 feet, 5/16" I.D., which can go up to 100 feet, and 3/8" I.D., which can handle runs of hundreds of feet. These lines are pre-made into bundles that are insulated. With each tube dedicated to its own brand of beer, and two or more glycol lines touching each one of these tubes; bundles range from 2+2 (2 product + 2 Glycol) up to 20+4 (20 product plus 4 glycol). They can also be custom-made depending on what the customer is looking to do. The glycol lines are set in the center with the product lines running around them. This ensures proper temperature control. Each trunk line is insulated with commercial-grade insulation, foil tape, and water barrier tape. This keeps the lines from sweating in warm/humid areas. Condensation can occur if the trunk line isn't wrapped properly with a glycol system.

Why Are Beer Trunk Lines Important?

The importance of these trunk lines lies in their ability to keep draft beer cold as it travels through them, even on long distances between the cooler and draft towers. This ensures that customers get high-quality, fresh-tasting draft beer no matter what kind they choose since temperature control is key when dealing with draft beer.Without this temperature control, flavors could change drastically and spoilage could occur quickly; in addition, foaminess would be much higher making it difficult for bartenders to pour a beer. This is why proper insulation is crucial when installing these lines; otherwise, all their benefits would be lost and quality could be compromised severely over time due to fluctuating temperatures within the system itself.

Where Can You Buy Quality Beer Lines

Beer Trunk Lines can be found in specialty beer equipment stores such as Micromatic, Perlick, AC Beverage, and UBC. I like using Micromatic. It's a high-quality beer trunk line that will last a long time for customers. I believe they are also the best in the industry. You can find some cheaper options out there too.

Conclusion:

Beer trunk lines are an essential component when dealing with glycol lines or remote beer systems that require long runs between coolers and draft tower taps. Not only do they provide a way for customers to enjoy their favorite draft beer without compromising on flavor or quality but also ensure that temperatures remain consistent throughout the entire system. Allowing bartenders do their job correctly without having any issues pouring due to excess foaminess. Caused by warm beers traveling through them. If you’re considering setting up beer lines consider investing in a good-quality trunk line bundle so your customers can enjoy high-quality beers anytime!
